Cristiano Ronaldo apologizes after having released a video in which he breaks a fan's phone
Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo apologized after a video clip appeared in which he appeared to break a fan's phone.
The footage was shared on social media alongside comments claiming he broke the device as he left the pitch following his team's 1-0 defeat to Everton.
Ronaldo, 37, apologized on social media saying "sorry".
“It's never easy to deal with emotions in difficult times like the ones we face,” he said.
The result shattered United's hopes of qualifying for the Champions League, after being defeated by Everton, who were over the relegation zone by one point before kick-off.
"We must always be respectful and patient and be an example for all young people who love this beautiful game," said the Portuguese player.
"I would like to apologize for my indignation and, if possible, I would like to invite this fan to watch a game at Old Trafford as a sign of fair play and sportsmanship."
Manchester United said they are aware of an "alleged incident following today's game against Everton and that the club would cooperate in any police investigation."
