Dubai Ports World chief said Wednesday that there is no end ahead of sea container shortages, port congestion and rising freight rates impacting global trade.
The bottlenecks are caused by the imposition of restrictions related to the coronavirus pandemic and the unexpectedly rapid recovery in demand as economies recover from the pandemic.
"These are the complications. Nobody knows how long it will take. I think it will take a long time," said Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem at a conference as part of Expo 2020 in Dubai, refusing to speculate when the unrest would end.
"The problem is complicated because you have a shipping backlog," he added.
State-owned DP World is one of the largest port operators in the world, operating more than 90 facilities in six countries.
The head of the company said the workforce at DP World will increase from 56,000 today to nearly 100,000 within three to four months.
